RTI -Wayanad farm suicides

Dear friend,

We have filed an RTI(right to information) ,to know about government relief measures to farm related suicide issue. Report reveals the inaction from government in this regard. It happens to be that only our aid is available to the families which we are supporting.

Asokan, from Seetamount, pulpally suicided due to heavy loss he suffered from ginger cultivation in karnataka which he took on lease. Omana, his wife and 15 year old daughter is staying in a small hut, made with the help of her good nieghbours in this border village.

She was visited by local MP,MLAs ,ministers and leaders of opposition.Agricultural minister KP Mohanan promised to give 2 cows ,besides an instant relief amount 1 lakh, as announced by the government.Same is the situation of all destitute farmer familes all over wayanad.

Poor farmer families are not only prey to the negligence of govt. machinery ,but also subjected to the mockery of their ill fates by providing them with false promises.

The number farm suicides in wayanad in the last 4 months stands at 18.As RTI report suggests govt. is least bothered in acknowledging them as such.
There were 7 farm related suicide in november 2011 itself. The list should have included Paily from ambalavayal and Jose from nallurnadu.

So government has failed to recognize all farm suicides.Besides it does nt have fulfilled any monetery aid promised,as RTI report reveals.

..Thanks and regards
